Sacagawea, from the "Women of Renown Collection", was from the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. She was the wife of the French trapper, Charbonneau, who was hired "as an interpreter through his wife" for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Sacagawea was incredibly valuable to the group as it traveled westward, through the territories of many new tribes. While on the trek she had a son, Jean Baptiste. I have dressed her in earth tones with leggings, tunic, skirt and a stenciled cape, all made with paper twist ribbon. She has a cradleboard for her son, strapped to her back. Sacagawea stands with her walking stick, on a round, painted base, making her overall height approximately nine inches. All "Women of Renown" dolls are made of wood, wire, doll hair, miniature accessories and paper twist ribbon. Her name and dates (there is a question about them) appear on the label.
