This is How I Make a Doll

These directions are for my "Ashley" Doll

Gather your Materials

From Left to Right:
bowl with wet washcloth (to wipe fingers)
paper twist ribbon(coil, spool or figure 8 ropes)
Tacky and Fabri-tac adhesives
spool of covered beading wire (30ga.)
petal pattern for skirt
eyelets (plain or gingham- not both)
wood: 1 1/4" ball knob; 6" dowel(1/4"); 2"wheel
tools: scissors, wire cutters & pliers
wire stem-18ga.(arm stem)

Also needed but not shown:
Aldastar Pretty Hair or doll hair of your choice
white & natural paper twist ribbon
1/8" satin ribbon to match
quilting thread for pony tail
Sewing machine
1" cardinal or other bird
anything that looks like bird feed
and, of course, a glue gun

Before you start, do the following:




Assembly
  1. Wood: insert one end of dowel into wheel for base. Hot glue ball knob to other end for head
  2. With wire cutters, cut a 5" stem (18ga.)for arm.
  3. Use 1/2 of the natural twist, 6 1/2" long; tacky across each end and down 1 side; tacky 2" down other side from each end (save unused 1/2 for another doll) Fig.1
  4. Lay stem on edge with tacky and begin a tight roll. Roll to the end of paper and twist ends for hands (hands should be small and narrow) Fig.2

  5. Cut white twist as follows:(pcs=pieces)
    1. 3- 4 1/2"pcs. ( 2 sleeves-1 1/2 pcs each)
    2. 2- 4 1/2"pcs (wheel/dowel wrap)
    3. 5- 5 1/2" pcs (underskirt)
    4. 1- 5 1/2" pc cut into 3 equal 5 1/2" pcs (2 bodice pcs-3rd pc not needed)
  6. Tacky seams of each sleeve, creating 2 tubes.(remember each sleeve is 1 1/2 pcs) Fig.3
  7. Stand a sleeve up on its end; lower hand into the opening to just above wrist; gather and wrap with 1 - 4" beading wire (henceforth known as www-4" (wrap with 4" wire) Fig.4
